Union Public Service Commission conducts Engineering Service Examination every year. Engineering Service Examination is conducted in 3 stages Prelims, Mains and Interview. In this article, we have discussed the exam pattern and Old question papers of Engineering Service Examination.
The UPSC Engineering Service Exam Pattern is as follows:
- Stage-I: Prelims (Objective Type) – 500 Marks
- Stage-II: Mains (Conventional Type) – 600 Marks
- Stage-III: Personality Test/Interview – 200 Marks
Total Marks:1300
Engineering Service Preliminary Examination:
Engineering service Prelims contains 2 papers (GS Paper and Engineering Discipline Paper) consisting of objective in nature . IES Prelims exam There will be 100 questions in the GS paper, 150 question in Paper-II (Engineering Discipline) with 2 marks for each question and there will be a negative marking of 1/3rd or 0.66 marks. No marks will be deducted for questions that you choose to leave unanswered. The marks scored in the UPSC ESE Prelims Exam will be counted in preparing the merit list.

Engineering Service Mains Exam Pattern:
Mains examination contains 2 papers consisting of descriptive in nature that assesses the candidate’s technical knowledge in their specific engineering discipline . Two papers Paper 1 (Engineering Discipline ) and Paper 2 (Engineering Discipline ) each worth 300 marks. The marks scored in the Mains Exam will be counted in preparing the merit list for final selection.

Personality Test:
The final stage of the Engineering Service examination pattern is the Personality Test/Interview. It carries 200 marks. The primary goal of the interview is to evaluate the candidate’s overall personality, knowledge in concerned engineering subjects, communication skills and suitability for a position in the Engineering Services. Normally Interview takes 30 minutes time depending on panel The Personality Test is the final phase of the Engineering Service exam and it holds considerable weight in determining the final rank of the candidate.
